Q. My site is currently under construction and I don't yet have a URL to submit. I would still like to register for the logo so I can design the placement into the site. May I still register without a URL
A. No, you must have a valid URL to register in order to recieve the HWG Logo Kit. However, by inserrting the following link with the included size attributes where you would like to place the logo you can account for the space it will require:

Q. May I place a direct link to a copy of the Logo residing on the HWG server?
A. No, you may not. By placing a link to the logo in ths fashon, the potential exixts for a massive amount of extra hits on our server.
Q. Your registration and usage seems to only apply to use of the new logo for one web site. I currently maintain 7 web sites and the number is growing. Do I have permission to include the new logo on each of my websites that I maintain?
A. Yes, you would need to register for use of the Logo on each site it resides on. A revised application form is in the works that will allow this. In the meantime , you will need to register a separate time for each site.
Q. Can I replace "the author" with my name?
A. Yes, this is fine.
Q. Does the wording have to be *exactly* "The author is a member of"? Could I use, in its place, "I am" instead?
A. Yes, this is fine.
Is there a wide version of the logo??
A. No, there are no other versions of the HWG logo at this time and no other versions are planned.
Q. Do you think you will have another version of the logo?
A. No. There are no plans for additional or revised versions of the Logo.
Q. Why not make the logo an 80 x 33 pixel button as per the netscape, ms IE, real audio, shockwave etc. buttons?
A. The Guild would like our logo to standout from the crowd - after all we are different. During the logo's design phase, we experimented with several different versions of an HWG logo, including ones in the size of other common logos and found that it didn't meet our goals: to be different from all the other buttons placed on websites and to deliver our message clearly.
Q. How about a logo containing the text "Member of the HTML Writers Guild"? I'm not able to fit the text onto my page, but with a picture including the text, this would be possible...
A. Because this is exactly the problem that we were attempting to slove with the change in Logo and the new Guidelines. In the past, when words were placed into the Logo that would indicate membership, the Logo was widely misused to represent that a business or company was the member of the Guild, when in fact this was not the case.
Q. Could you create a logo containing the text "Member of the HTML Writers Guild"? I don't like adding the required text on my page.
A. No, this is the only logo Guild members may display to indicate their membership. Previous versions of the logo did include the "Member of.." text and were widely misused to represent that a business or company was a member of the Guild when in fact this was not true. We believe the new logo and use guidelines solve the problem.
Q. Am I correct in understanding the we can now post the HWG logo on a page designed by us for our employer? Assuming we use the "Designed by a member of..." qualification.
A. Yes, so long as the required text is used.
Q. I would like to know if when I register, as an example, one of my client web site,to the HWG Logo program do I need to register every pages of the site or if I register the index.html file, it's good for other pages of the site
A. The logo needs to be registered once per site.
Q. May I display the text "The author is a member of" in a font color that will disappear into the background of the page so that the image looks better?
A. No. This is a violation of the spirit of the Logo Guidelines. The text must be visible to be in compliance with the Guidelines.
