Online Logo Usage Guidelines


Enrollment in the HWG Logo Program

Enroll in the HWG Logo Program immediately by signing up at http://www.hwg.org/services/logo/join.html ; and agree to the following Logo Usage Guidelines to assist you in proper usage of the HWG standard logo (the "Logo"). The power of the Logo lies in its consistent and appropriate use. Any usage outside of these guidelines dilutes the effectiveness of the Logo and makes it more difficult to defend our rights to the service mark. HWG reserves the right to change or modify the Logo and/or these Guidelines at any time at its discretion. Members shall comply with the Guidelines as amended from time to time.


1. USAGE

  • The HTML Writers Guild will provide you with electronic artwork of the Logo in the member center. You may not alter this artwork in any way.
  • This Logo is provided only as a graphical representation to promote The HTML Writers Guild and/or to indicate that you are a trial or full member, and is not in any way an indication of HWG sponsorship or endorsement of the content of the site it appears on.
  • The Logo is provided for Website usage only, and may not be used in any other fashion unless specified herein.
  • The Logo is provided for local use only. You may not link directly to the HWG member logo on hwg.org.
  • The Logo is owned by The HTML Writers Guild, Inc. and all uses of the Logo inure to the benefit of The HTML Writers Guild.

Organization name:

If the Organization name is used in the document text, it should appear as The HTML Writers Guild at the first and most prominent use in all materials and can thereafter be referred to as HWG.

Intent.

You are not permitted to use the Logo to disparage The HTML Writers Guild, its members, or promotional goods. similarly, you cannot imitate HWG's promotional materials or the Logo in any of your materials, including advertising, product packaging, and promotional materials. The Logo must not be used in a way that implies HWG's sponsorship or endorsement of the product, service or content presented on your Internet Site. This includes placing the Logo on an "Awards Page" unless it includes the appropriate text.

1a. Use of Logo to indicate membership.

When used on a member's personal site, the HWG Logo must be accompanied by the following text or an allowed variation, as indicated below:

The author is a member of.....

as indicated in the example below.

The author is a member of
The HTML Writers 
Guild
OR
The author is a member of The HTML Writers Guild

Your name or "I am" may be substituted for "The author is". An officially approved translation of the text may be used to match the page's native language.

The Logo must always use the following link and supporting ALT text:

You may include a BORDER="0" (or another number) attribute if you wish. When using the logo in a framed site, we require the use of the TARGET="_top" or TARGET="_blank" attribute as well. The use of the TITLE attribute is required only on pages designed to be HTML 4.0-compliant.

1b. Use of Logo as a link only.

Third parties wishing to use the Logo as a Link to the HTML Writers Guild Website may, provided that the text indicating membership is removed. Third party users should not place the Logo on any "Awards Page" or section.

The Logo when used in this situation must use the following link and supporting ALT text:

1c. Use of Logo on a client site.

Members enrolled in the HWG Logo Program may use the Logo on a client site providing the client agrees to both the graphic and the link back to HWG, and the following text appears with the Logo:

Designed by a member of

You may insert your name if you wish, as in "Designed by <name>, a member of" An officially approved translation of the text may be used to match the page's native language.

The Logo must always use the following link and supporting ALT text:

You may include a BORDER="0" (or another number) attribute if you wish. When using the logo in a framed site, we require the use of the TARGET="_top" or TARGET="_blank" attribute as well. The use of the TITLE attribute is required only on pages designed to be HTML 4.0-compliant.

A text statement alone or with a link may be used if the Client objects to the graphic and/or the link to HWG. The Logo cannot be used without the link though.

In all cases, the Logo must be an active link to the HTML Writers Guild Website at this URL address:

http://www.hwg.org/

2. PRESENTATION

Prominence. Do not use the Logo or the names The HTML Writers Guild or HWG more prominently than your personal name, company, product, or Website name.

Artwork. Use only HWG authorized electronic artwork of the Logo. The HWG icon is to be displayed as an independent Logo, and not conjoined with any other graphic or text in such a way as to imply HWG endorsement or sponsorship. The Logo may not be used as a feature or design element of any other Logo.

You may not alter this artwork in any way.

Size. The Logo cannot be reduced or enlarged beyond what is electronically provided by HWG. Do not remove any trademark symbols or alter the Logo in any way. Redraws, distortions, or animation of the Logo are not permitted beyond what is provided.

3. ALTERATIONS TO THESE GUIDELINES.

HWG reserves the right to change the Logo and these Usage Guidelines at any time and solely at its discretion. If possible, HWG will provide advance notice of these changes. For the latest guidelines and information go to the Logo Program site located at http://www.hwg.org/services/logo/. All Logo authorized sites will be notified by e-mail of any changes to this criteria. Permission to use the logo is limited to those who meet the then applicable criteria, and those who no longer meet the criteria must discontinue the use of the logo. Any use of the Logo that is not consistent with these guidelines is strictly prohibited.

4. CANCELLATION OF AUTHORIZATION TO HOST LOGO.

HWG reserves the right to review use of the Logo. Disregard for these Usage Guidelines may result in a revocation of the right to use the logo, and with it all benefits enjoyed through participation in the program.

5. COMPLIANCE.

Any member found to be improperly using the Logo or using any outdated or unapproved HWG Logo must correct any deficiencies in their use of the Logo upon reasonable notice in the form of a electronic written request to remove the logo in question and informed that if they wish to use the correct Logo the steps needed to be taken. They will be given a set time period to comply with this request. Refusal to correct such deficiencies may result in revocation of the right to use the Logo. Continued use may result in revocation of membership in The HTML Writers Guild.
