THE HTML WRITERS GUILD

HTML Writers Guild 1998 Election
Candidate Listing

Frederick J. Barnett (fred(at)eatel.net)

Statement of Vision

What is my vision of the Guild? What the Guild was when I joined. A place for those who care about the web, and who want to write pages for it that are right the first time. A place where a newbie, or an experienced hand can learn the occasional new trick or two. Where no question is unanswerable, even if the answer is no. Where people all across the face of the Earth can share and help one another in doing their very best. Sure there's the occasional grumble about a question that's been asked maybe a hundred times already, but someone always manages to provide the answer anyway.

And what is the Guild's future? It's already on it's way there. With 50,000+ members (at last count), it can become the premier site for those who want to create their own little corner on the web, or those who want to make it their chosen profession. All should be, and are, welcome here.

And my place in all this? The same as any other member of the Guild. A strong desire to help make the Guild the best it can be for all its members. That will take hard work, dedication, and a lot of time. I believe I have all of these, and I hope you will join me whatever the outcome on election day, to make The HTML Writers Guild the best it can be. Thank you.

Qualifications

My qualifications for the HWG Governing Board are: I'm 34 years old; I'm physically disabled, so I have plenty of free time to devote to Guild duties; I've been on the internet since 1991 and am very proficient in it's use; I've had my personal homepage up and been the webmaster for my local astronomy club since March of 1996; webmaster for an astronomical observatory that my club is involved in since about April of 1996; and I have one paying customer, who's site has been up since July 1996.

I've been an active member of HWG since March of 1996; a member of the Logo Team since about October of 1996, and the Logo Team Manager since March of 1997. I was also a member of the Resources Team for awhile. Besides my astronomy club activities, my other group experience is as a former co-host, conference host, and webmaster of an astronomy forum on the Delphi Internet online service, and a former conference host in the Star Trek forum, so you can see I enjoy interfacing with people online.

My only other, admittedly intangible, qualifications are a fresh set of eyes, ideas, and eagerness that any new member to the G.B. can bring.
