This course overview the fundamental of eCommerce. Students will learn the knowledge to identify and understand fundamental terms and concepts related to eCommerce, recognize the evolution of eCommerce, and have an understanding aspects pertinent to selling and marketing on the Internet.

This course is designed typically for anyone that has interest in eCommerce such as Technical staff, IT Project Managers, Business Analysts, and Sales Professionals.

Week 1: Introduction to Electronic Commerce

  • Differences between electronic commerce and traditional commerce
  • Economic Forces that have created a business environment that fosters electronic commerce

Week 2: Technology Infrastructure: The Internet and the World Wide Web

Week 5: Business-To-Business Strategies: From Electronic Data Interchange To Electronic Commerce
  • Strategies that businesses use to improve purchasing, logistics, and other support activities
  • Electronic data interchange and how it works
  • How businesses are moving electronic data interchange operations to the Internet
  • Supply chain management and how businesses are using the Internet and Web technologies to improve it
  • Electronic marketplaces and portals that make purchase-sale negotiations easier and more efficient
Week 6: Web Auctions, Virtual Communities, and Web Portals
  • Origins and key characteristics of the six major auction types
  • Strategies for Web auction sites and auction-related businesses
  • Virtual communities and portals

How eClasses Work:The classroom environment is based on Lundeen & Associates Web Crossing technology, a threaded messaging system. Instructors post lectures, reading selections, and hands-on assignments once a week in the online classroom. Students can discuss the assignments with the instructor and amongst themselves in the classroom area. This format has no set meeting time, which allows students to attend class at a time most convenient to them, yet still provides logically organized communication between class participants. Dominique LerouxDominique is originally from Montreal, Canada and he is now living in West Virginia. Dominique is a full-time faculty member in the Computer Information Systems department at Huntington Junior College where he has developed and implemented a new E-commerce specialization. Dominique joined the IBM Scholars Program and the IBM Scholars e-business Certification Program in December 2002. Dominique is a charted member of the Institute of Certified E-commerce Consultants.
